The Night Owl (Ninox noctis)

Originally home in the north of England with first appearances in the 6ts and increasing numbers in early 7ts, this very social owls gather now worldwide on their favourite habitat, the wooden sprung dance-floor. Bobby Paris’s anthem The Night Owl, released 1966 on Cameo and a cover of an earlier Tony Allen hit, was a huge floor filler in his own right and a badge (see picture) was created to  immortalise these nocturnal creatures. You can meet night owls of all ages and origins at the 3rd Sydney Soul Weekender this weekend (for more info look at the SSW Facebook site). You will find me mingle with them on the dance floor (or pretty regularly at the bar with a cold beverage).

Next week: Zebra Finch or how to find water in the desert.
